Emphasis will be placed on field work and laboratory work that will focus on sampling methods, water quality testing and the use of modern technologies to monitor marine life and sedimentation here in the Bay of St. Louis and the Gulf of Mexico. When appropriate, the beach and the pier are used as outdoor classrooms. Students will use seines and cast nets to collect organisms from the Bay. These organisms will be studied in the lab in the students’ aquarium that they must maintain throughout the course.
